The 2012 version of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has just
kicked off in Las Vegas. Many products and technologies for the year
will be on display at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 2011 has been
a brilliant year for technology with many incredible products under
tablet, smartphone, Ultrabook, notebook and other categories. Here are
some products that are going to make news in the year ahead.
Samsung Galaxy S III
The third version of Samsung’s famous Galaxy S series smartphones has been much awaited. Galaxy S II, which hit stores mid 2011, has been doing well in global markets in fight with iPhone 4. The Korean tech major will be working to roll out a state-of-the-art next gen version for the phone, which may possibly appear in stores a bit earlier than its regular schedule. Some rumors said Galaxy S III would have a 12-megapixel real camera. However, it is certain that the phone will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Apple iPhone 5
Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of iPhone 5. They were expecting it last year but Apple just rolled out a slightly modified version, dubbed iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5, which should be the biggest iPhone upgrade ever after iPhone 4, may have an entirely new look and more capabilities. There are rumor that the iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch display, A6 processor and a thinner body.
Apple iPad 3
The new iPad 3 is yet another much-anticipated Apple product slated to hit the market within months. The Cupertino based tech giant launched its iPad 2 in March last year. It is high time Apple should upgrade its market dominating tablet with a new and fresh one. The annual iPad release period comes in March or April, so we can expect a thinner, faster and more brilliant iPad 3. Maybe, it will be the first iPad with a quad core processor.
Sony PlayStation Vita
Sony unveiled its much-touted handled gaming device, PlayStation Vita (PSV) in Japan in 2011 fall. The 5-inch portable gaming device is slated to appear in U.K and U.S. markets in February. Gamers in countries are in huge anticipation for PSVita, which has dual analog sticks and rich control buttons.
Windows 8
Microsoft’s next generation Windows operating system, Windows 8 is also set for release early this year. The new version of Windows is specially designed to support ARM microprocessors, meaning that it will run on tablets. The Metro-style icons and a high speed Internet Explorer 10 will be the peculiar things with Windows 8.
Intel Medfield tablets
In competition to ARM, Intel has decided to join the lightweight microprocessor business for tablets and mobiles. The leading chipmaker for desktops and notebooks is also to concentrate on mobile chips from this year onwards. Intel’s first series of mobile chips, dubbed Medfield, is to be unveiled mid this year. The company itself plans to roll out its own tablets using Medfield chips.
Nokia tablets
The Finnish mobile maker will unveil its first series of tablets in association with Microsoft this year. The Windows 8-based tablets from Nokia have been excitedly awaited by tech enthusiasts. Nokia has surfaced Lumia series of smartphones on Windows Phone 7 in 2011 fall.
Nintendo Wii U
Nintendo Wii U, which was shown off at the E3 in LA in June 2011, is expected to hit stores in 2012. The follow-up to the successful Wii console is expected to revitalize Nintendo this year. The console is said to be powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3. It will have a tablet-like controller also.
Asus Transformer Prime
Transformer Prime is the first tablet PC in the world to run with NVIDA Tegra 3 quad core processor. Asus announced the device in 2011 fall and it is slated to land in stores early this year. Many global markets have already received the Prime. The device has just received the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.
